| Authors: | Gillian Dooley [transcriber] Burns, Robert [lyricist] Jane Austen [transcriber] |
| Keywords: | Jane Austen Sheet music Their Groves of Sweet Myrtle Scottish songs |
| Issue Date: | 22-Jan-2011 |
| Abstract: | Song with words by Robert Burns. First line: 'Their groves of sweet myrtle let foreign lands reckon'. 2 verses. Melody and simple bass part only. |
| Description: | Transcribed by G. Dooley from manuscript in the Jenkyns collection at Chawton House Library. There is a variation in the words from Burns' original, including replacing 'Jean' with 'Jane'. Both versions of the words have been included. (Burns words downloaded from http://www.robertburns.org/)
Professor Jeanice Brooks of Southampton University has discovered another manuscript copied by a Mary Egerton c. 1801 with the same variation in words. This MS is held at Tatton Park, nr Knutsford, Cheshire. It is likely that they were copied from the same print source. |
