| Abstract: | Whatever John Fletcher's failings as a dramatist, there is general agreement that he was a master of song-writing. It is perplexing, therefore, to see Cyrus Hoy, in his authoritative edition of the play, produce a version of an important song which contains an error. The error is likely to have crept in when the play was printed for the Folio (1647): it is hardly plausible that Fletcher himself made it. |
