Citation: Richardson, W.A.R. 1995. A Cartographical Nightmare - Manuel de Godinho de Eredia's Search for India Meridional. In: Proceedings of the International Colloquium on The Portuguese and the Pacific, ed. Francis A. Dutra & Joao Camilo dos Santos, 314-348.
Abstract: The author examines the writings and maps of Manuel Godinho de Eredia from the early 1600s, and concludes that Eredia's "increasingly contradictory and far-fetched written and cartographical portrayals of India Meridional" should not be used to prove an earlier discovery of Australia.
