The view generally to be found in the scholarly literature on the environmental movement in Greece is that it has little influence, and that there is little public awareness of environmental issues. It will be argued in this paper that the view is very misleading, because it fails to take into account developments which began in the early 1970s and accelerated in the 1990s.en
